Comprehensive Conducting Workshop

Competition Rules

1. Any Age or Nationality

Open to all conductors of any nationality and without age limit.

2. Full Attendance

All participants must attend all conducting sessions.

3. Advance to Finals (Saturday)

Only 6 conductors will be chosen exclusively by orchestra members.
Only if there is a tie will Maestro Neil Thomson and Dr. Scott Weiss cast their votes.

4. Only three conductors will receive awards in the Final Competition (Saturday).

- Grand Prize Winner - chosen exclusively by orchestra members.
Only if there is a tie will Maestro Neil Thomson and Dr. Scott Weiss cast their vote

- 2nd Prize Winner - chosen exclusively by orchestra members.
Only if there is a tie will Maestro Neil Thomson and Dr. Scott Weiss cast their vote.

- 3rd Prize, Audience Prize Winner
(to be selected exclusively by the audience members.
Only if there is a tie will Maestro Neil Thomson and Dr. Scott Weiss cast their vote.

All competition results are final and cannot be contested.

Application & Requirements

Required Repertoire

WORKSHOP REPERTOIRE (Monday-Thursday)
Participants are free to conduct any of the following:

  • Brahms 3, Mvt. I
  • Schumann 3, Mvt. I
  • Beethoven 3, Mvt. I
  • Dvorak 7, Mvt. I
  • Brahms I, Mvt. I
  • Tchaikovsky 5, Mvt. I

COMPETITION SEMI-FINALS REPERTOIRE (Friday)
Repertoire will be assigned randomly from the following:

  • Brahms – Symphony No. 3, Mvt. I
  • Schumann – Symphony No. 3 Mvt. I
  • Beethoven – Symphony No. 3, Mvt. I
  • Dvorak – Symphony No. 7, Mvt. 1

COMPETITION FINALS REPERTOIRE (Saturday)
Repertoire will be assigned randomly from the following:

  • Brahms – Symphony No. 3, Mvt. I
  • Schumann – Symphony No. 3 Mvt. I
  • Beethoven – Symphony No. 3, Mvt. I
  • Dvorak – Symphony No. 7, Mvt. I
  • Brahms – Symphony No. 1, Mvt. I
  • Tchaikovsky – Symphony No. 5, Mvt. I
